The 19th amendment was significant to the United States because it allowed women to show their point of view which gave the government more complexity.
Overview
The women's suffrage movement began in 1848 in Seneca Falls, NY. This movement was led by Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott, whom drafted a Declaration of Sentiments, which was based on the Declaration of Independence.The National Woman Suffrage Association was led by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony and the American Woman Suffrage Association was led by Lucy Stone and Henry Blackwell. Supporters organized marches and parades to be active protestors. In 1913, Alice Paul and Lucy Burns formed the Congressional Union for Women Suffrage. This organization that turned into the National Women’s Party in 1917. By 1920, the 19th amendment to the Constitution was ratified by the states.
